I would have loved to stay at the Grand Hotel in Vienna this time, but we thought: do something smart. So we did, and we booked us into the Hotel Daniel. Smart Luxury is what they call it. A very nice place to stay, as it turned out. A design hotel which opened it’s doors in August 2011. The Daniels in Vienna is the second hotel from the guys running it. They opened the first Hotel Daniel 2005 in Graz and they must have thought: don’t change a great concept.
The hotel is located just a 15 minutes walk to the city centre, right next the the beautiful Schloss Belvedere. Even though sitting outside enjoying a drink or some food on the terrace is a little loud – it’s right next to a big street – it is nice there, looking at the garden of the hotel, where they grow tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, herbs and ‘Blue Wildbach’ grape vines in Egyptian clover.
The first thing you see, when you walk towards the hotel is a sailing boat of original size on the roof. Boot on the roof? Yes. The sculpture by Ervin Wurm is called ‘misconceivable’.
Besides the nice room we had – I say just nice, because we have not been able to get the room we originally wanted to have with the Belvedere View – there is one other really special one: the trailer in the front garden.
But let’s not call it a trailer, it is the historic Silver Rocket model, a 22 ft. Silver Streak Clipper built in 1952. This is a very cool and stylish idea for a very special ‘room’ at a hotel.
The bakery is the breakfast place, café, restaurant and bar at the Daniel. The breakfast is more than enough. Very good selection of everything, from the cheese to the fruits and cereals. Freshly made scrambled eggs or omelet and home made bread.
So to sum it up: very nice hotel at a very reasonable price. It is very possible, that I will go there again, next time I am in Vienna.
